A Vent on Dryers

March 9th, 2009 by Linda Jenkinson

Yesterday spring was in the air and I thought it might be the wrong time to talk about inside dryer vents. Today our wintery-mix became just-winter. It’s snowing and it’s cold. Good day to do laundry.

heat-keeper I used to hate doing laundry in the winter. Minnesota weather is erratic. In the summertime the heat is in your face and the humidity drips off your elbows. Winter is just the opposite. Below zero temperatures are often the norm and sometimes it feels as if the humidity is below zero, too. Here in Minnesota, our basement gets pretty chilly in the winter months. Nowadays, though, it heats up quickly due to our Heat Keeper dryer vent.

Although not suitable for gas dryers, if you’re dryer is electric, the Heat Keeper from Dundas Jafine, will both help heat your home in the winter and put some moisture back into the air. In the summer, just a flip of a lever vents your dryer outdoors again. The Heat Keepr includes an easy-clean lint filter.

The Dundas Jafine website keeps a list of the retailers that carry their products. One Canadian company, Castle Wholesalers sells them for $4.94. However, like many wholesalers, Castle Wholesalers does require a $25.00 minimum order. A Google search for Heat Keeper Kit brings up several on line retailers that sell the Heat Keeper for under $10.00.

Although I don’t know how much the heat keeper reduces our heating costs, in Minnesota, every little bit helps. The heat keeper dryer vent is just another small step you can take to improve your environment.
