Celebrate Earth Day

April 22nd, 2009 by Linda Jenkinson

One of my favorite pieces of poetry is the last verse of Robert Frost’s Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening:

  • The woods are lovely, dark, and deep.
  • But I have promises to keep.
  • And miles to go before I sleep.
  • And miles to go before I sleep.

Although the snow is finally gone, this poem seems right for Earth Day, the day set aside for celebrating the Earth. Later this afternoon, Bailey and I will go into that dark deep woods along one of our favorite trails. I’m going to take a bag with me and pick up all the trash that others have left along the trail. We may go miles, but today I’ll make sure to keep my promise to take some small steps towards a sustainable environment.

If you can’t make it out to your favorite woods or walkway today, you can still celebrate Earth Day from your computer. There’s no better time than Earth Day to stop by the Nature Conservatory. They have some great ideas for Earth Day Celebrations that you can use any day. They also have some excellent initiatives that let you easily help to preserve the planet. You don’t even need to take a small step to do it. Just click and join them.
